so that you may know the certainty of the things that you were instructed.
And they were both righteous before God, going on in all the commandments and righteous requirements of the Lord, blameless.
for he will be great before the Lord. And he shall never drink wine and strong drink, and he will be full of the Holy Spirit even from the womb of his mother.

And behold, you will conceive in womb and will give birth to a son, and you will call His name Jesus.
He will be great, and He will be called Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David,
and He will reign over the house of Jacob to the ages. And of His kingdom there will be no end!”
And Mary said to the angel, “How will this be, since I do not know a man?”
And answering, the angel said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore also the Holy One being born will be called Son of God.
And she cried out in a loud voice and said, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!
And from where [is] this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
And Mary said: “My soul magnifies the Lord,
For He looked upon the humiliation of His maidservant. For behold, from now on all the generations will call me blessed.

[Those] hungering He filled with good things, and [those] being rich He sent away empty.
He took hold of Israel His servant, remembering mercy,
as He spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his seed to the age.”
“Blessed [be] the Lord, the God of Israel, because He visited and performed redemption for His people,
and He raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of His servant David,
as He spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets from the age,
salvation from our enemies and from the hand of all those hating us,
to show mercy toward our fathers and to remember His holy covenant,
the oath that He swore to Abraham our father, to give us,
having been saved from the hand of [our] enemies, to serve Him without fear
in holiness and righteousness before Him all our days.
And she gave birth to her Son, the firstborn, and she wrapped Him in swaddling cloths and laid Him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.
And the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring good news to you⁺ [of] great joy that will be to all the people.
For today in the City of David a Savior was born to you⁺, who is Christ the Lord.
a light to the uncovering of the Gentiles, and the glory of Your people Israel.”
And the Child continued to grow and become strong, being filled with wisdom. And the grace of God was upon Him.
And Jesus continued to advance in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.
And those being soldiers were also questioning him, saying, “And what shall we do?” And he said to them, “Extort no one, nor accuse falsely, and be content with your⁺ wages.”
Now it came to pass, in all the people having been baptized and Jesus having been baptized and praying, [that] heaven was opened,
and the Holy Spirit descended upon Him in a bodily form as a dove. And a voice came out of heaven: “You are My Son, the Beloved; in You I was well pleased.”
And the devil, having ended every temptation, departed from Him until an opportune time.
And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit to Galilee, and a report went out through all the surrounding region concerning Him.

And He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up; and according to His custom, He entered into the synagogue on the day of the Sabbaths, and He rose up to read.
And the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to Him, and having unrolled the scroll, He found the place where it was written:
“The Spirit of the Lord [is] upon Me, because of which He anointed Me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim deliverance to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to send forth the oppressed in deliverance,
to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”
And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your⁺ ears.”
To everyone asking you, give, and from the one taking away what [is] yours⁺, do not demand [it] back.
And if you⁺ love those loving you⁺, what grace is it to you⁺? For even the sinners love those loving them.
For even if you⁺ do good to those doing good to you⁺, what grace is it to you⁺? Even the sinners do the same.
And if you⁺ lend [to] [those] from whom you⁺ expect to receive back, what grace is it to you⁺? Even sinners lend to sinners, that they might receive back the equivalent.
But love your⁺ enemies, and do good, and lend expecting nothing back. And your⁺ reward will be great, and you⁺ will be sons of the Most High, because He is kind to the ungrateful and evil.
Be merciful, as also your⁺ Father is merciful.
And do not judge, and you⁺ shall not be judged; and do not condemn, and you⁺ shall not be condemned; release, and you⁺ will be released.
Give, and it will be given to you⁺. A good measure, pressed down, shaken, running over, they will give into your⁺ bosom. For with what measure you⁺ measure, it will be measured back to you⁺.”
For there is no good tree producing rotten fruit, nor again a rotten tree producing good fruit.
For each tree is known by [its] own fruit. For they do not gather figs from thorns, nor do they pick grapes from a bramble bush.
The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth what [is] good, and the evil out of the evil brings forth what [is] evil. For out of the abundance of the heart, his mouth speaks.
But the Pharisees and the lawyers set aside the counsel of God for themselves, not having been baptized by him.
And the ones upon the rock [are] those who, when they may hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, who believe for a time, and in time of testing they fall away.
And the [seed] in the good soil, these are those [who], in a beautiful and good heart, having heard the word, hold [it] fast and bear fruit in perseverance.
Therefore look how you⁺ hear; for whoever may have, to him [it] will be given; and whoever may not have, even what he thinks to have will be taken away from him.”
And He was saying to all, “If anyone wants to come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross every day and follow Me.
For whoever may be ashamed of Me and My words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when He shall come in His glory and [that] of the Father and of the holy angels.
“You⁺ let these words sink into your⁺ ears; for the Son of Man is about to be betrayed into the hands of men.”
And answering, John said, “Master, we saw someone casting out demons in Your name, and we were forbidding him because he does not follow with us.”
And Jesus said to him, “Do not forbid [it]; for whoever is not against you⁺ is for you⁺.”
And having seen [it], the disciples James and John said, “Lord, do You want [that] we should call fire to come down from heaven and to consume them?”
But having turned, He rebuked them,
And Jesus said to him, “The foxes have holes, and the birds of the sky nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere He might lay the head.”
The one hearing you⁺ hears Me, and the one setting you⁺ aside sets Me aside, and the one setting Me aside sets aside the One having sent Me.”
And the seventy-two returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name.”
Behold, I have given you⁺ the authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and on all the power of the enemy, and nothing will injure you⁺.
But do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you⁺; but rejoice that your⁺ names have been written in the heavens.”
And He said to him, “What has been written in the Law? How do you read [it]?”
And answering, he said, “‘You will love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind,’ and ‘your neighbor as yourself.’”
And He said to him, “You answered correctly. Do this and you will live.”
But a certain Samaritan, journeying, came to him, and having seen, he was moved with compassion;
and having come, he bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; and having put him on his own beast, he brought him to an inn and took care of him.
And He said to them, “When you⁺ pray, say: ‘Father, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come.
Give us each day our necessary bread.
And forgive us our sins, for we ourselves also forgive everyone indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation.’”
And I say to you⁺: Ask, and it will be given to you⁺; seek, and you⁺ will find; knock, and it will be opened to you⁺.
For everyone asking receives; and the one seeking finds; and to the one knocking, it will be opened.
And which father of you⁺, [if] the son will ask for a fish, instead of even a fish, will give to him a serpent?
Or also, [if] he will ask for an egg, will give to him a scorpion?
Therefore if you⁺, being evil, know to give good gifts to your⁺ children, how much more will the Father who [is] from heaven give the Holy Spirit to those asking Him!”
But the Pharisee, having seen, marveled that He did not wash first before the dinner.
Woe to you⁺, the lawyers, because you⁺ took away the key of knowledge. You yourselves did not enter, and you⁺ hindered those entering.”
And one from the crowd said to Him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide with me the inheritance.”
And He said to him, “Man, who appointed Me a judge or divider over you⁺?”
And He said to them, “Beware, and keep yourselves from all covetousness, because not to anyone is his life in the abundance of that which he possesses.”
And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many good things laid up for many years; take your rest, eat, drink, be merry.”’
And He said to His disciples, “Because of this I say to you⁺, do not be anxious for life, what you⁺ may eat, nor for your⁺ body, what you⁺ might put on.
For life is more than food, and the body than clothing.
Consider the ravens, that they do not sow nor reap; unto them there is not a storehouse nor a barn—and God feeds them. How much more valuable are you⁺ than the birds!
And who of you⁺, being anxious, is able to add to his lifespan a cubit?
If, then, you⁺ are not even able [to do] the least, why are you⁺ anxious about the rest?
Consider the lilies, how they grow: They do not labor, nor do they spin. Yet I say to you⁺, not even Solomon in all his glory was clothed like one of these.
But if God thus clothes the grass in the field, being [here] today and tomorrow being thrown into the furnace, how much more you⁺, O little of faith!
And you⁺, do not seek what you⁺ might eat and what you⁺ might drink, and do not be in suspense;
for all the nations of the world seek after these things, and your⁺ Father knows that you⁺ have need of these.
But seek His kingdom, and these things will be added to you⁺.
Let your⁺ loins be girded around and the lamps burning,
and you⁺ [be] like men waiting for their master when he shall return from the wedding feasts, that, having come and having knocked, immediately they might open to him.
Blessed [are] those servants whom, having come, the master will find watching. Truly I say to you⁺ that he will gird himself and will make them recline, and having come up, will serve them.
And if he should come in the second, and if in the third watch, and he finds thus, blessed are those.
But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what hour the thief comes, he would not have permitted his house to be broken into.
And you⁺, be ready, because the Son of Man comes in that hour you⁺ do not think.”
And the Lord said, “Who then is the faithful, wise manager, whom the master will set over the care of his, to give in season the grain measure?
Now that servant, the one having known the will of his master and not having prepared nor having done according to his will, he will be beaten with many.
But the one not having known but having done [things] worthy of stripes will be beaten with few. And of everyone to whom much was given, much will be required; and from him to whom much was committed, more will they ask of him.
No, I say to you⁺; but unless you⁺ repent, you⁺ will all likewise perish.
No, I say to you⁺; but unless you⁺ repent, you⁺ will all likewise perish.”
“Strive to enter through the narrow door, because many, I say to you⁺, will seek to enter and will not be able.
And having come to the house, he calls together the friends and the neighbors, saying to them, ‘Rejoice with me, because I found my sheep, the lost one!’
I say to you⁺ that thus there will be joy in heaven over one sinner repenting, rather than over ninety-nine righteous ones who have no need of repentance.
And having found [it], she calls together the friends and neighbors, saying, ‘Rejoice with me, for I found the drachma that I lost.’
Thus, I say to you⁺, there is joy before the angels of God over one sinner repenting.”
And He said, “A certain man had two sons.
And the younger of them said to the father, ‘Father, give to me the portion of the substance falling [to me].’ And he divided the livelihood between them.
And after not many days, the younger son, having gathered together all, went away into a far country, and there he scattered his substance living prodigally.
But [on] his having spent all, there was a strong famine throughout that country, and he began to lack.
And having gone, he joined himself to one of the citizens of that country, and he sent him into his fields to feed pigs.
And he was desiring to fill his belly from the pods that the pigs were eating, and no one was giving to him.
But having come to himself, he was saying, ‘How many hired men of my father have an abundance of loaves, but here I am perishing with hunger?
Having risen up, I will go to my father and I will say to him, “Father, I sinned against heaven and before you;
no longer am I worthy to be called your son. Make me like one of your hired men.”’
And having risen up, he went to his father. But [on] his still being distant, his father saw him and was moved with compassion, and having run, he fell upon his neck and kissed him.
And the son said to him, ‘Father, I sinned against heaven and before you; no longer am I worthy to be called your son.’
And the father said to his servants, ‘Quickly bring out the best robe and clothe him, and give a ring for his hand and sandals for his feet;
and having brought the fattened calf, kill [it], and having eaten, let us be merry,
because this son of mine was dead and lived again! He was lost and was found!’ And they began to be merry.
And his elder son was in the field; and as, coming, he drew near to the house, he heard music and dancing.
And having summoned one of the servants, he was inquiring what these things might be.
And he said to him, ‘Your brother has come, and your father killed the fattened calf, because he received him back in good health.’
But he was angry and was not willing to go in. And his father, having gone, was imploring him.
But answering, he said to his father, ‘Behold, so many years I serve you, and never did I transgress a commandment of yours, and never did you give to me a young goat so that I might be merry with my friends.
But when this son of yours came, the one having devoured your living with prostitutes, you killed the fattened calf for him!’
And he said to him, ‘Child, you are always with me, and all that [is] mine is yours⁺.
But it was fitting to be merry and to rejoice, because this brother of yours was dead and lived again; and he was lost and was found.’”
The one faithful in very little is also faithful in much, and the one unrighteous in very little is also unrighteous in much.
If, therefore, you⁺ were not faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will entrust to you⁺ the true?
And if you⁺ were not faithful in that which [is] of another, who will give to you⁺ that which [is] your own?
No servant is able to serve two masters. For either he will hate the one and he will love the other, or he will hold to the one and he will despise the other. You⁺ are not able to serve God and mammon.”
But it is easier for the heaven and the earth to pass away than one stroke of a letter of the Law to fall.
Everyone sending away his wife and marrying another commits adultery. And the one marrying her sent away from a husband, he commits adultery.
And in Hades, having lifted up his eyes, being in torment, he sees Abraham from afar and Lazarus in his bosom.
And having cried out, he said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me and send Lazarus so that he might dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am suffering in this flame.’
But Abraham said, ‘Child, remember that you fully received your good [things] in your life, and Lazarus likewise the evil [things]. But now he is comforted here, and you are suffering.
And besides all these things, a great chasm has been fixed between us and you⁺, so that those desiring to go over from here to you⁺ are not able, nor may they cross over from there to us.’
But Abraham says, ‘They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.’
But he said to him, ‘If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, not even will they be persuaded if one should rise out from the dead.’”
Take heed to yourselves: If your brother should sin, rebuke him; and if he should repent, forgive him.
And if he should sin against you seven times in the day, and seven times he should return to you, saying, ‘I repent,’ you will forgive him.”
And the apostles said to the Lord, “Add to our faith!”
Thus also you⁺, when you⁺ may have done all the [things] having been directed you⁺, say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have done that which we were obligated to do.’”
And He was speaking a parable to them that it is necessary for them always to pray and not to grow fainthearted,
saying, “There was a certain judge in a certain city, not fearing God and not respecting man.
And there was a widow in that city, and she was coming to him, saying, ‘Avenge me from my adversary.’
And he was not willing for a time, but after these things he said in himself, ‘Even if I do not fear God nor respect man,
yet because this widow causes me trouble, I will avenge her, so that coming until the end, she does not exhaust me.’”
And the Lord said, “Hear what the unrighteous judge says.
And shall not God execute the avenging of His chosen—the ones crying out to Him day and night—and be deferring in regard to them?
I say to you⁺ that He will execute their avenging in quickness. Nevertheless, the Son of Man having come, will He find the faith on the earth?”
And He also spoke this parable to some trusting in themselves that they are righteous, and despising others:
The Pharisee, having stood, was praying toward himself thus: ‘God, I thank You that I am not like the rest of the men—swindlers, unrighteous, adulterers—or even like this tax collector.
But the tax collector, standing afar off, was not even willing to lift up the eyes to heaven, but was striking his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, the sinner!’
I say to you⁺, this one went down to his house justified, rather than that one. For everyone exalting himself will be humbled, but the one humbling himself will be exalted.”
And they were bringing the infants also to Him so that He might touch them; but having seen, the disciples were rebuking them.
But Jesus summoned them, saying, “Permit the little children to come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of the such is the kingdom of God.
Truly I say to you⁺, whoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall never enter into it.”
But having stood, Zacchaeus said to the Lord, “Behold, half of my possessions, Lord, I give to the poor; and if I defrauded anything of anyone, I repay [it] fourfold.”
For neither are they able to die anymore, for they are like angels, and they are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection.
And you⁺ will be delivered up even by parents and brothers and relatives and friends, and they will put to death some of you⁺.
And you⁺ will be hated by all because of My name.
And no, not a hair of your⁺ head shall perish.
And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.
And these things beginning to come to pass, look up and lift up your⁺ heads, because your⁺ redemption draws near.”
And take heed to yourselves, lest your⁺ hearts ever be burdened with dissipation and drunkenness and the cares of life—and that day would come upon you⁺ suddenly as a snare.
And Satan entered into Judas, the one being called Iscariot, being of the number of the Twelve.
And having received a cup, having given thanks, He said, “Take this and divide [it] among yourselves.
For I say to you⁺ that I will not drink of the fruit of the vine from now until the kingdom of God shall come.”
And having taken the bread, having given thanks, He broke [it] and gave to them, saying, “This is My body, which is given for you⁺; do this in remembrance of Me,”
and the cup likewise, after the supping, saying, “This cup [is] the new covenant in My blood, which is being poured out for you⁺.
And there was also a dispute among them [as to] which of them is thought to be the greatest.
But you⁺ [shall] not [be] thus. Rather, the greatest among you⁺, let him be as the younger, and the one leading as the one serving.
Simon, Simon, behold, Satan asked for all of you⁺ to sift like wheat.
But I begged for you, that your faith may not fail. And you, when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.”
And he said to Him, “Lord, I am ready to go with You both to prison and to death.”
But He said, “I tell you, Peter, the rooster will not crow today until you shall deny three times knowing Me.”
saying, “Father, if You are willing, take away this cup from Me. Yet not My will, but Yours, be done.”
And having been in agony, He was praying more earnestly. And His sweat became like large drops of blood falling down upon the ground.
And having turned, the Lord looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He said to him, “Before the rooster crows today, you will deny Me three times.”
And having gone forth outside, he wept bitterly.
And the men who are holding Him began mocking Him, beating [Him].
And having blindfolded Him, they were questioning [Him], saying, “Prophesy, who is the one having struck You?”
And Pilate, having called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people,
said to them, “You⁺ brought to me this man as one misleading the people; and behold, having examined [Him] before you⁺, I found nothing in this man guilty of that accusation you⁺ are bringing against Him—
no, nor even Herod, for he sent Him back to us. And behold, nothing worthy of death is done by Him.
Therefore, having chastised Him, I will release [Him].”
(For of necessity he must release one unto them at the feast.)
But they cried out all together, saying, “Away with this [man], and release to us Barabbas,”
who was one having been cast into the prison on account of a certain insurrection having been made in the city, and murder.
Therefore Pilate, wanting to release Jesus, called to them again.
But they were crying out, saying, “Crucify! Crucify Him!”
And he said to them a third [time], “What evil indeed did this [man] commit? I found no cause of death in Him. Therefore having chastised Him, I will release [Him].”
But they were urgent, asking with loud voices for Him to be crucified. And their voices were prevailing.
And Pilate sentenced their demand to be done.
And He said to him, “Truly I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.”
And it was the Day of Preparation, and Sabbath was beginning.
And having returned, they prepared spices and anointing oils. And they rested indeed on the Sabbath according to the commandment.
He is not here, but He is risen! Remember how He spoke to you⁺, being yet in Galilee,
And they were talking with one another about all these things having taken place.
And having begun from Moses and from all the Prophets, He interpreted to them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures.
See My hands and My feet, that I am He. Touch Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones, as you⁺ see Me having.”
And He said to them, “These [are] My words, which I spoke to you⁺ being still with you⁺, that it is necessary to be fulfilled all things having been written concerning Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms.”
Then He opened their mind to understand the Scriptures.
and repentance and forgiveness of sins are to be proclaimed in His name to all nations, having begun from Jerusalem.
You⁺ are witnesses of these things.
And He led them out as far as to Bethany, and having lifted up His hands, He blessed them.
And it came to pass, in His blessing them, [that] He was separated from them and was carried up into heaven.
