The Book of this Law shall not depart from your mouth, and you shall meditate in it day and night, so that you will be careful to do according to all written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous and then you will succeed.
And Joshua said to Achan, “My son, give, please, glory to YHWH, God of Israel, and make to Him confession and tell now me what you have done. Do not hide [it] from me.”
And I saw among the spoils one beautiful cloak of Shinar, and two hundred shekels of silver, and one wedge of gold weighing fifty shekels, and I coveted them and took them, and there they are hidden in the earth in the midst of my tent, and the silver [is] under it.”
And Joshua made peace with them, and he cut a covenant with them to let them live, and the rulers of the congregation swore to them.
The sons of Israel did not attack them, because the rulers of the congregation had sworn to them by YHWH, God of Israel. And all the congregation complained against the rulers.
And all the rulers said to all the congregation, “We have sworn to them by YHWH, God of Israel, and now we may not touch them.
Did not Achan son of Zerah act unfaithfully—an unfaithfulness—with the devoted thing, so that wrath fell upon all the congregation of Israel? And not only he, one man, perished in his iniquity.’”
[and] lest you go among these nations, these remaining among you⁺, and the name of their gods you⁺ shall not mention nor cause one to swear [by them], and you⁺ shall not serve them and not bow down to them.
And now, fear YHWH and serve Him in sincerity and in truth. And put away the gods that your⁺ fathers served on the other side of the River and in Egypt, and Serve YHWH!
And if it seems evil in your⁺ eyes to serve YHWH, choose for yourselves this day whom you⁺ will serve, whether the gods that your⁺ fathers served that [were] on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorite, in whose land you⁺ are dwelling. And I and my house, we will serve YHWH!”
And Joshua said to the people, “You⁺ [are] witnesses against yourselves that you⁺ have chosen for yourselves YHWH, to serve Him.” And they said, “Witnesses!”
